After a preliminary hearing has been heard, another conference is held to try to resolve the case through a plea bargain. At a Readiness Conference, also known as a pre-trial conference, the defense counsel and prosecutor will discuss the case including any legal issues that need attention. Defense counsel and the prosecutor can agree to resolve the case. If no agreement is reached, the trial date may be confirmed or the parties can ask for an extension better known as a continuance.
